Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I'm planning to upgrade my PC. But I need a little help in choosing the right processor for my system. Right now, I find AMD Phenom II X4 965 to be a little cheaper than the i7 920. I also want to hear your opinion about the other processors of i7. Is i7 really worth the cash ? What difference does it have when compared to AMD Phenom ? PS:I use my system mainly for gaming.

Rep Power: 2 ![]() | Intel i7 has hyperthreading, which is intel's implementation of simultaneous multithreading which allows the chip to run 8 threads (logical cores) in some cases. Also i7 has a triple channel memory controller compared to the phenom's dual channel one. While at gaming, Core i7 920 can perform well at heavily threaded environment. Another advantage of i7 is the overclockability. They are highly oc-able and runs without much problems. As for the price, Phenom II X4 965 is cheaper than 920, so you can spend the extra money in the gpu. Since you'll use it mainly for gaming, I would recommend buying a Phenom X4 965 and get a good GPU. However, if you've already got a good Gpu, then get an i7, a decent PSU and overclock it!

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | It depends on the budget. If getting an i7 means scaling down on your other components, then that would defeat the purpose. But if you're on a higher budget, go get an i7.

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | When it comes to gaming, it doesn't really matter what cpu you have especially if you play at high resolutions. Most high end cpu's will give you the same FPS throughout *provided* you've got a high end gpu installed in your system. So I'd say put the extra cash into the GPU rather than having a 'not-so-good' card with a high-end cpu.
