Computer problem

Having problems with downloads. Word files are fine but exe files for computer programs either open and show activation and then quit never installing or they say the entire file may not download or copy and then don’t install
What I’ve tried:
Wiped and reprogrammed computer, tried downloads with IE 8 and Firefox
Ran AVG, Kaperski and Macro virus said system was clean

1.COPY THE ENTIRE THING ABOVE
2.Paste it on notepad and save as "fix.reg" on desktop
3.Go to the desktop and double click it,when prompt window appears, click yes.


Btw, can you can access Start>Run>Regedit.exe ?

If you get this error message
"Windows cannot open this file: REGEDIT.exe"
then follow these steps:

1. Open task manager
2. HOLD DOWN 'CTRL' KEY and click File>New Task.
3. This will open a Command Prompt window.
4. Enter REGEDIT.exe and press Enter.
5. Once regedit is open click File>Import and locate that fix.reg,click Open.

1. Copy this and save as fix.reg on desktop
2. Double click it.

Can only import binary files from register editor

off regedit the key you have chosen is invallid

Which OS are you running ?

XP Pro used it for years never had this problem

DISABLE ALL ANTIVIRUS
and Try this

METHOD 1

1. Goto Tools>Folder Options>File Types Tab
2. Scroll down to .EXE (It would be arranged in alphabetical order.If you find it there, then change the 'association' to Application).However if you don't see .EXE , proceed to Step 3
3. Select the New button, type EXE for the extension and select the Advanced button. From the list choose "Application".

METHOD 2

Since you've tried one of the .reg fixes and with no success, I'm not sure if this one will work. Anyway its worth a try.

After saving , double click it or Import it from regedit
Open>Regedit >Edit>Permissions in the menu and then make certain that you have permission to make the changes. Sometimes, permissions are removed by some software so you might have to check the "allow" box for the user log in you used when signing onto the computer.




If this doesn't work, send me the screenshots of the error messages.(both registry error window and .exe error window)
